Local Accommodations

The picturesque New England town of Rochester is conveniently located on Route 100 in central Vermont, approximately 1.25 hours from Burlington, VT, 1 hour from Hanover, NH and 3 hours from Boston, MA. The institute will be based at the Rochester School, 222 South Main St in Rochester, Vermont, and will have classes in several locations surrounding the town center. Local restaurants and businesses are all within walking distance, making your busy day easier to manage and more enjoyable. Several local B&Bs are ready to welcome you for the week (some have pianos). Camping is also available. Please make your reservations early because Rochester is a popular vacation destination.

Many Rochester residents make their homes available for Suzuki week on airbnb and other websites, such as www.homeaway.com and https://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/vermont/sugarbush-mad-river-glen/rochester. A little hint is that if you say you are staying for an entire week, you often get a discounted rate! (And it is lovely to be in Rochester an extra day on either end - and then you can offer to help Pam with set up and clean up)!

June 2024: We have recently received two offers for housing in Rochester. These both accommodate one parent and one child, If you are interested in this, please e-mail Pam!

CAMPING

Chittenden Brook Campground

Camping the week at Chittenden Brook Campground is a fantastic experience for a fraction of the cost of renting a room. Only 20 minutes from Rochester, this campground has spacious sites, hiking trails, a stream, toilets, and a great community vibe when a bunch of GMSI’ers stay there! It does NOT have showers or potable water on-site, however. There is also a nice cabin there maintained by the Vermont Hut Association, with propane stove, outside deck, eating and sleeping areas with a capacity of ten.

Also, check out this yurt! Sleeps six, propane stove, no water on-site. Amazing view. https://vermonthuts.org/huts/spikehorn-yurt/
